Brande Jackson
Brande Jackson, M.A. is a lecturer in American Studies at 91 and Cal State Fullerton. She teaches classes on popular culture, American immigrant cultures and history, 91culture and history, American character, celebrity culture, as well as introductory American Studies courses. Her areas of academic focus and interest include media & society, community history, Los Angeles/91culture & history, and American social movements.
Each semester, she leads walking tours of downtown Los Angeles, designed as ‘out of class experiences’ for her students at CSUF and 91, as well as community members. More info on the walking tours can be found here:
Brande has been an educator and facilitator since 2001, working with a variety of community and school programs via her non-profit organization, Living Histories. In addition to her work at 91 and CSUF, she hosts workshops and leads programs for K-12 youth in schools, community centers, and juvenile detentions centers.
She is currently working a on project called “Stories of Where We Are From” which aims to better connect communities via local history and storytelling/memoir writing.
In the summer, Brande often works as a real-life roadie, going out on tour where she does concert photography and community engagement for artists like Arcade Fire, John Mayer, and Dead and Company. You can learn more about her work as “roadie for a cause” here:
