As department chair (2017-2026), Fleming led initiatives focused on curriculum innovation, student success, career readiness, faculty development, accreditation and industry partnerships. She has worked closely with faculty, alumni and media professionals to expand experiential learning opportunities such as internships, strengthen connections between the classroom and the profession and prepare graduates for careers in journalism, public relations and emerging media fields.

Before entering higher education, Fleming worked at CTV, Canada’s largest private broadcaster. As a writer and producer at CTV National News, she contributed to some of Canada’s most-watched news and current affairs programs, including CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson and Canada AM.

Fleming holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Simon Fraser University, a Master of Arts in Journalism from Western University (formerly the University of Western Ontario) and a Doctorate in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
